At the present date, Montis has 366 associates.
The 2018 ordinary General Assembly will take place on March 17, in the Vouzela/São Pedro do Sul area.
As soon as the weather conditions are ideal, the Montis association will hold another controlled fire on the property of Baldio de Carvalhais. This fire is intended to remove fuel and allow future interventions in an area of around 9ha. Montis is committed to Mossy Earth and to EDP Renováveis to plant until the end of February more 2900 trees in the controlled fire area in the Baldio de Carvalhais.
As you know the means are limited, therefore any help is important. Some volunteer actions do not require effort and even distance operations. Thus, an email with a short survey (about 3 min.) will be sent to the associates, with some of the activities for which we need help and for those you would like to contribute. The answer to the questionnaire will allow us to evaluate and organize the various possibilities for collaboration.
On the 20th and 21st of January, we had a volunteer weekend at the Baldio de Carvalhais, São Pedro do Sul. Over 600 oaks (Quercus pyrenaica) were planted, several dozen willows cuttings were planted and we held a citizen science action through the implementation of pitfalls – to capture and identify soil fauna. This volunteering was carried out in partnership with the VO.U, University Volunteer Association, under the LIFE ELCN Project.
Our next activities:
-On February 7 we will participate in the Seminar “Social Responsibility and Corporate Volunteering”, organized by the Barreiro City Council, at the Environmental Education Center of Mata da Machada and Sapal do Coina.
-On the 10th of February there will be our Monthly Volunteering, which will begin at 10 hours, in Carvalhais, S. Pedro do Sul. This action will be destined to the planting of native trees.
-On February 15th we will have another presentation by MONTIS, at AEESAC, in Coimbra, for the “IX Week of Courses”, starting at 11:30. The purpose of this participation is to give some knowledge to the students of this institution about the labor market related to the courses taught at ESAC.
-On February 24, the Monthly Tour will take place this time in the Alentejo region. The tour will be at Herdade do Esporão, in Reguengos de Monsaraz, where we will discuss ecosystem management. The tour will be in the morning. Those who wish, can finish with a wine and regional products test, and for this reason, contact the Herdade services (reservas@esporao.com).
-In March 3rd and 4th, the Volunteer Weekend will be held in the Baldio de Carvalhais, with tree planting and natural engineering techniques. Montis provides accommodation (camping), food, personal accident insurance and technical support.
-On the following Saturday (10th of March), the monthly volunteer day will be in the Baldio da Granja, Valadares, São Pedro, dedicated to the control of invasive species.
-On March 17th we have the General Assembly of Montis, still in a place to be defined.
-The Monthly Tour will be on the 31st, in the wasteland of Alvadia, Ribeira de Pena, Vila Real, where we will visit one of the winning projects of the ICNF – Environmental Fund Prize.
